In Doug Magee’s recent compelling contribution to The Rap Sheet’s “Story Behind the Story” series, he discusses how his time working with death row inmates inspired his new novel.
Doug writes, “I found myself identifying with the men and had many cold-sweat moments imagining being in their shoes, waking to the reality that I had killed and the killing could not be reversed or absolved.” Doug uses this ability to empathize to great effect in DARKNESS ALL AROUND, which opens with a man coming to the horrible realization that he murdered his wife’s best friend.
