Michelle Woods

Half-Irish and half-Czech, Michelle Woods grew up in Ireland and England, as well as intermittent summers in 1970s and 1980s Czechoslovakia. She now lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband, Michael, and their two tiny dogs, Lenny and Nolan, who love to hike and pose on rocks. She studied at Trinity College, Dublin (BA, PhD) and was a Fulbright scholar at Columbia University. She has published three books on Czech writers: Franz Kafka, Milan Kundera, and Václav Havel, and has published translations in Granta and Words Without Borders. She works at SUNY New Paltz, where she loves to teach as much dark and funny Central European literature as she can.
