ARLA’s own Myfanwy Collins will be battling it out with other literary heavyweights in a Literary Death Match this January 25th in Boston!
For those not yet initiated into this literary fight club, here’s how it works: four authors will read their work before a panel of three all-star judges, who choose two finalists to battle it out in the Literary Death Match finale for the glory of the Literary Death Match crown.
According to its website, the Literary Death Match “marries the literary and performative aspects of Def Poetry Jam, rapier-witted quips of American Idol’s judging (without any meanness), and the ridiculousness and hilarity of Double Dare” (presumably with any green slime either).
To those of you who think this sounds crazy in addition to crazy fun, they have this to say:
It may sound like a circus — and that’s half the point. Literary Death Match is passionate about inspecting new and innovative ways to present text off the page, and the most fascinating part about the LDM is how seriously attentive the audience is during each reading. We’ve called this the great literary ruse: an audacious and inviting title, a harebrained finale, but in-between the judging creates a relationship with the viewer as a judge themselves.
The battle will take place in the Enormous Room at 569 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge at 8:05pm on the 25th. Be there!
