One Bird Is A Phoenix

Friday, October 3rd, 2014

one_bird_mmWe’re thrilled to tell you that Kyoko Mori’s ONE BIRD is the winner of the 2015 Phoenix Award. The prize is awarded annually to a book of high literary merit that was published twenty years earlier and did not win a major literary award at the time. According to the Children’s Literature Association, “The Phoenix Award is named after the fabled bird who rose from its ashes with renewed life and beauty. Phoenix books also rise from the ashes of neglect and obscurity and once again touch the imaginations and enrich the lives of those who read them.” Past winners include the classics Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block, I Am The Cheese by Robert Cormier, and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, so we’d say that ONE BIRD is certainly in some excellent company!

The Best Summer Read

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014

bone_orchard_doironNeed a good book to take with you on vacation this summer? Well, Down East Magazine has heralded THE BONE ORCHARD by Paul Doiron as “Best Summer Reading” in their annual Best of Maine issue!

Booklist says of this fifth installment in the Mike Bowditch series: “Massacre Pond is a tough act to follow, but Doiron avoids series stagnancy by placing Bowditch outside of the law enforcement circle he once loved and treating readers to another round of top-notch outdoors-Maine description. Highly recommended for fans of C. J. Box and Craig Johnson.”
